A new year means a new chance to revamp your interior design, and beautiful new examples of shutters in homes in Fort Myers and across the country. It also means a new winner for our Share Your Shutters contest, and the first of 2017 is Elk Grove, California homeowner Katie S. for her Polywood® plantation shutters.

Elk Grove in Northern California is just one of several places around the U.S. whose homes can benefit from Polywood shutters year-round. Even when not closed tightly like in Katie’s photo submission, plantation shutters block a good amount of sunlight from flooding into the home. In Elk Grove as well as in Fort Myers, that’s a boon to any design-minded homeowner who wants total light control in their space.

Plantation shutters also block energy transfer through the windows, which means they’re great for homeowners who experience scorching summers or harsh winters, or who just want to up their home’s energy efficiency. That adds up to a more liveable home and cash back in your pocket every month with lower utility bills.

Katie’s new shutters also capitalize on some newer home design trends. Neutral-colored backgrounds such as her brown wall are becoming very popular, with differing splashes of colors–in this example the white of the Polywood shutters–working as points of interest throughout the room. Available in a range of white and off-white colors, plantation shutters can fill a nice niche in modern interior design.

As our winner, Katie will receive a $100 gift card to a local restaurant, as well as getting her plantation shutters featured alongside our previous winners.
